Hi there friends~Happy February! The month of love and decadent sweets…you just gotta love that! I started it off right with these family favorite Browned Butter Banana Bars. My daughter Bella loves these bars. Since she was having a friend spend the night Saturday, I thought I would make them a sweet treat. I’m totally a frosting girl myself and this one is as good as it gets….I could just eat it out of the bowl with a spoon! So yummy!
Give this recipe a try…you won’t be sorry!!!
As always…Just Keep Cooking…

The taste testers 🙂
Let’s get started…go gather all of the ingredients!
Break up 3-4 very ripe bananas into a bowl and mash with a potato masher(or fork!)
Mash bananas until this consistency.
Mix together butter and sugar. Add sour cream and eggs; then add mashed bananas and vanilla. Next add in dry ingredients and nuts(if using). So easy!!!
Pour into a greased or non-stick foil lined jelly roll pan(10×15).
Smooth out batter evenly and place in 375 degree oven for about 20 minutes. Now go make the frosting!
Out of the oven lightly browned and smelling fabulous! Let cool until just warm and frost.
Perfectly frosted…
Time to slice and eat!
Enjoy!!!
- 1/2 cup butter-softened
- 1-1/2 cups sugar
- 1 cup sour cream
- 2 large eggs
- 1-3/4 cup mashed ripe bananas *about 3-4 bananas
- 1-1/2 tsp pure vanilla extract
- 2 cups flour
- 1 tsp baking soda
- 3/4 tsp salt
- 1/2 cup chopped walnuts or pecans *optional
- 1/2 cup butter
- 4 cups powdered sugar
- 1 tsp vanilla
- 3-4 Tbls milk or cream
- Heat oven to 375 F. Grease or line with non-stick foil a 10x15 jellyroll pan. Mix together flour, baking soda, and salt and set aside. In mixer fitted with paddle attachment beat butter and sugar together until creamed. Next add sour cream and eggs and mix for 1 min. Add in mashed bananas and vanilla, just until incorporated. Mix in reserved dry ingredients in two batches, just until mixed together. Stir in walnuts or pecans if using. Pour batter into pan and bake for 20-25 minutes.
- Melt butter in saucepan over medium heat until lightly browned(watch closely to not burn butter) stirring constantly. Butter will boil and foam and just start to turn brown. Remove and pour into mixing bowl. Add in powdered sugar and mix at medium speed to incorporate. Add in vanilla. Add in milk a tablespoon at a time to desired consistency. Frosting should be thicker than a glaze, but a little thinner than regular frosting. Spread on warm cake and cool. Enjoy!

This looks great!!! Can’t wait until I’m well enough to try this. What kind of frosting did you use? and what kind of nuts? We like both pecans or walnuts. I bet either would be good.
Thanks,
Elaine

Hope you are feeling better soon! Wish we were closer and I would bring you some. They are really good bars and the browned butter frosting is amazing! I have used both pecans and walnuts and they are both delicious. This time I didn’t use any nuts because Bella’s friend has a nut allergy, but they were still yummy. Sending healing wishes and big hugs and love to you!!
